Heaven

By Bobby Thomas

Heaven is described by Jesus Himself as a place that has many mansions (John 14:2). Why is that important to us? We think of mansions as large homes that have many rooms, very decorated, and comfortable. Jesus is not saying that we will have our own mansion, but our own room in God's mansion. We will live with God in Heaven (Matt 6:9). Listen to these descriptions from the Bible of what will be in Heaven:

There will be rest - "There remains therefore a rest for the people of God." Heb 4:9

There will be glory - "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 2 Cor 4:17

There only be holiness (no sin) - "But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life." Rev 21:27

We will worship God - "After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, "Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God!" Rev 19:1

There will be fellowship - "to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect," Heb 12:23

There will be reward - "Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing." 2 Tim 4:8

Listen to these descriptions from the Bible of what will not be in Heaven:

No tears! - "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; nor sorrow, nor crying" Rev 21:4a

No death! - "there shall be no more death" Rev 21:4b

No pain! - "There shall be no more pain" - Rev 21:4c

No night! - "Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there)." Rev 21:25

No stain or corruption, rebellion or violence, robbery or murder! - "But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life." Rev 21:27

Truly Heaven is the great reward! It is the prize we will win at the end of the race Paul is so often speaking of (I Cor 9:24; Phil. 3:14). Can you imagine living with God and Jesus? Try if you will to remember the best day you have ever had. I am confident it will be a day when you felt great peace and comfort. It was a day when your family was happy with you, and you could see how much they loved you. It was a day when you did all the work assigned you, and felt good about relaxing at the end. It was a day full of joy, and blessings. Heaven as described to us by God will be like that forever and ever. Truly it will be even better than that because God is there (Matt 6:9). It will not be a good day here or there, but an eternity of greatness.
