PURCELLVILLE, VA - The church of Christ in Purcellville formally broke ground today on a new 6,100 square-foot worship facility to be built on the church's 3.5 acre lot, located within the Village Case subdivision at 604 Yaxley Drive. The facility will initially accommodate 150 congregants, but is intended to be enlarged to serve 250 in the future. Purcellville's Mayor, the Honorable Bob Lazaro, and Kim Askew, representing the church's lender, Summit Community Bank in Leesburg, were among several honored guests at the ceremony.

"There are no worship facilities owned by a congregation of our faith in Loudoun County," said Dave Tollett, a church elder who presided over the ceremony, "so this a particularly historic event for the church." Lance Grimsley, the congregation's minister, emphasized the church's focus on preaching and teaching only from the Scripture in the new facility and noted, "This new building will greatly aid us in our efforts to carry out the Great Commission in Mark 16:15-16 and take the Gospel to this community."

The facility was designed by Robson Group Architects in Chantilly; the site plan was created by Patton, Harris, Rust & Associates in Leesburg; and, the general contractor is Witcher Construction, Stafford. Construction of the one-level facility, which features an auditorium with a baptistery, classrooms, and office space, is expected to be completed in mid-2008. The church of Christ was established c. 29 A.D. in Jerusalem. The Purcellville congregation is independent and autonomous and was formed in December 1998. The church currently meets at 201 N. Maple Avenue, Suite 201, in Purcellville.
